Meet Carlie, our Head Distiller & Blender.
We sat down with Carlie to chat about her journey in the spirits world, her role at Starward, and how, along with the growing Australian Whisky industry, Carlie is leading the way in the whisky world.
How did you get into the industry?
"I initially started in audio engineering with a job on the packaging line at a winery. I realised I was more interested in this instead, and became a lab tec at a winery, where I found in love with the science and fermentation.
I made the jump to Starward in 2018 when I was excited about how spirits was taking off and how Starward was leading the charge on it with their accessible approach to whisky, and I haven’t looked back since. "
How does it feel to be a leader in the Australian whisky industry?
"It feels thrilling and surreal, I am honored to be a leader of a very innovative industry.Women have always played a part in the history of distillation now it's time to come to the forefront."
What does the distillery mean to you?
"The distillery is like a second home for me and our barrels (which are like my children). this is my 7th year so it holds a lot of fond memories and nostalgia."
